Got a preview invite for Vox, and spent 10 minutes or so playing with it yesterday. Vox is SixApart's community oriented blogging platform - think Yahoo 360 / MSN Spaces / MySpace rather than Typepad or Movable Type.
To be honest, I'm not really sure I'm in the target demographic, but I can see the value in aggregating posts, comments and other content from your community or neighbourhood. Vox seems to have most of the expected functionality - flickr, amazon, youtube integration (although it would be good to see other sites such as del.icio.us and last.fm being slotted in).
But I don't think that functionality (beyond a base level which Vox reaches) is necessarily a key predictor for success - it's more about your network ("friends" in old-skool slang) - getting them onto the same platform, and actively participating (or at least reading) is key.
Crowded space, with most of the major players having an offering. But, as with the instant messaging space, none of them really work with each other - I'm wondering if there's an opportunity for someone to create (and excuse the clumsy / incorrect terminology) a "meta-community" site that glue the various platforms together and show an aggregated view of one's community across the different platforms ?
[PS - I seem to have some invites - does anyone who knows me / reads this blog want one ? Let me know.]

Ana, would you be so kind as to send a Vox invite if you have any left? If so, please send it to israelhyman [at] gmail.com.
Thank you!
Hi,
I don't know you.. to be completely honest I'm just searching google for a Vox invite. You wouldn't happen to still have one you'd be willing to share with a complete stranger would ya?
I really would like to try it out. I'm looking for an alternative to LJ (granted it's by the same company sadly) that has a community type system where you can see all of your friends blogs integrated into one page.
Thanks

Hello,
I am a sculptor/photographer/designer currently using Wordpress on my site. I have been considering either a move to Typepad or MovableType, or using one of them on an entirely new site. Im never completely satisfied with an existing design, and have taken on the challenge of making the horrendous code of MySpace a little more aesthetically pleasing. Ive done this through some help from others as well as a little XyleScope-ing. Im looking to get a standard invite, but I suppose a starter will do. Really, I just want a networking system to keep in touch with all my far-flung acquaintences that doesnt suck like MySpace. You know, one that is actually usefull. Is that to much to ask?

as someone else said, to be perfectly honest, im a complete stranger. although i have read your site a few times before, i've never really worked up the courage to actually comment. you seem really sweet and intellegent, so im adding you to my favorites.
i was wondering though, if you had any left, could i snag a vox invite? i can understand if you'd rather not, but its worth a shot in asking.
i also have another question, whats the best blogging software in your opinion? Wordpress,Typepad or Movable Type? (im having a hard time choosing and installing movable type, but im still trying to get a general census on the subject)
my email is ***** at gmail . com
Prospective Vox supplicants should read Jerdana's comment and use it as an example of how to go about requesting an invite. Just top class - nice one Jerdana - one Vox invite on its way.
As for the blogging software..hmmm...well, it depends a bit on:
- How geeky you are (MT and WP require installation, Typepad and Vox and simple - with Vox being especially so - also consider Wordpress.com - the hosted version of Wordpress)
- Do you have your own hosting (essential for MT and WP)
- Do you need your own domain name (MT, WP and Typepad)
- How much customisation do you wanna do (MT and WP best here, especially if you like to roll your sleeves up and get dirty !)
I started out with MT, went to Typepad for a while, now I've switched to Wordpress and I like Vox...so that's my cheap opinion - hope it helps !
