Podcasting - not really for me either

Paolo has many of the same issues with podcasting that I have:

Over the weekend I did some gardening, I loaded a couple of podcasts that I wanted to hear on my iPod and started working. After a few minutes I switched to music: having somebody chatting about technical stuff while mowing was quite annoying.

I totally agree with this: I've listened to some podcasts, and (for me at least) it demanded almost total concentration, otherwise they became background noise. Also, in most cases, the podcasts didn't add enough value over a simple blog post – who needs to listen for an hour when a blog post can deliver almost the same information in 5 minutes ? And if you happen to be distracted during the 10 seconds that there was something of interest…well you've just wasted a lot of time.

But then, I don't listen to Radio 4 (or radio in general)  much, so maybe I'm not the target market.

Sure you get some extras with podcasts – a sense of the emotional state, etc. Is it enough to compensate for the vastly increased demands on my time ? Don't think so – or maybe just on very rare occasions. I don't think I miss much information by not listening to podcasts, but I sure am listening to some good music .
